The Dying Legacy....!

The Indian youth today aspires to build up their careers in corporate sector or big business houses. All they urge for is a secure career that could earn them respect, recognition and ofcourse moolahhh.... all the parameters that is needed for the upliftment of their social integrity. While considering our career prospects how many of us....the Indian youth...look forward joining Indian Armed force? With the legacy of selfless impeccable service to nation behind, the Indian Armed forces are left today with enormous shortages of officers. Indian Army presently is facing a shortage of 11,200 officers, the situation is almost the same for India Air force and Navy. Once considered as most respectful of the professions, Indian Armed Forces are today witnessing disregards from the on the job officers also....who are desparetely looking for premature retirement. There is an uncanny erosion in the respect of in the once considered most respectful of pledges for the country.
Why is Indian Armed Force witnessing such detioration of respect? Is it because of Indian Army losing its invincibility or are there some other reasons attributing this degrdation. The rich tradition is withering away. It is in the verge of dying. Army officers who dedicated more than 20 years of their lives serving the country, the once who followed a dedicated family tradiion, does'nt wants their sons to join the Indian Army.............."If my son said he wanted to join the army, i would have shot him" ....said a retired brigadier. Disenchantment is an emotion nurtured by most of the army officers today.
Well for those joining the army money is obviously not an issue, only if their thirst for respect and integrity was quenched. Today army officers are summonedwhen situation goes beyond what police officers could handle. Army officers are deputed for the security of the Mother Nation..but Indian Army officers mow-a-days find themselves mostly caught up in flood reliefand control programmes and worse their efforts goes UNNOTICED & UNRECOGNISED.
Army is no longer an attractive prospect. Poor Promotional avenues, steep pyramidal structure, zero oppurtunity for lateral induction are reasons attributed. With civilian hierarchy in th administration Indian Army is going today nowhere.....With such blessed uncertainty How many Indian Youth would like to risk thir futures in the army....It is said army officers are only recognised when they die serving the nation. The government dos little for the army officers themselvs ,live alone paying due compensation and rspect to the famly of the martyrs. Bureaucracy is eating up the legacy. Civilian Authority having almost Zero knowledge about the defence thinks themselves higher than defence itself. Army officers with years of experience and service to the nation behind often have to face humiliation once they intend to stand up against such malpractise.
Well poor pay scale revisions and pension facilities are dissapoinments for the army officer. For those who are "trained to die for nation" all they achieve is mere fake promises, and often not even that. Recently retirede army officers returned their medals achieved during their terms of services to the President Mrs. Pratibha Patil. This was a gallant show protest against their demands of One Rank One Pay not being granted. But the Protest that saw thousands of Army officers and their families on street failed to trigger the concious of the government.
Well all i could do is to write a blog regarding the pittiful condition of the Indian Armed Force........I am suppossed to express my views through this blog....all i have is disgust....as a youth of India I dont know what can be done in such sorry state of affairs.....all i want is to spread awareness about the issue...so that from the next time we crack any criticism about the army and army officers we think over and over again of the onditions in which they serve us....yes we sleep soundly at our homes only because they stay awake in some distant frontiers.....!
